SANDTON
This apartment revamp was a full gut-and renovation project. The owners were
looking for a fresh perspective to escape the trap of repeating familiar styles. Their
brief was to modernise the space, blending their exceptional art collection, antiques,
and iconic furniture into a more contemporary setting.
We made structural changes to maximise natural light, though low ceilings and slab
construction presented challenges. By installing a dropped ceiling using as little
space as possible, we created an effective lighting plan—both general and art-
specific—which transformed the mood entirely.
To create an illusion of height, all standard-height doors were replaced with full-
height versions. A palette of light greys, metallic wallpaper, mirrors, glass, and high-
gloss cabinetry complemented the white epoxy balcony floor, creating a neutral,
elegant canvas for the homeowners’ striking artworks.
Wide-plank vintage oak flooring lends a timeless feel, while also creating warmth.
